In that case, everyone has to find their own particular outlet that works for them and their schedule and for me, specifically, I always try to find ways to infuse some “self care” in my beauty regimen. This can translate to many forms (at home face masks, facials, etc.) but one of my absolute favorite forms of self-care is the good old tried and true bath. At the very beginning of the pandemic, my husband and I had elected to renovate our long overdue master bathroom into the home oasis that we always wanted. While my husband cares about the big spacious shower, I was more fixated on having the beautiful, architectural bath tub I had only ever seen in magazines. Now that we HAVE the master bathroom of our dreams, it would be downright criminal not to use it. So, typically ONCE a week, usually at around 1am when my household is finally asleep and out for the count, I try to plan my own personal “Mommy Bath Time”.
What does that entail? Well, one of the first things I purchased, once I knew we were getting a new bathtub, was a wooden bamboo bathtub tray. This tray spans across the bathtub and typically holds some of my bath time essentials including an iPad and/or iPhone with respective headphones, a book, a snack and a glass of wine (of course). The bathwater itself is always nice and warm (okay, scalding but that’s how I like it) and the water is a concoction of a few various elements:
Bath Salts
Bath salts are a great option for relaxation prior to going to sleep (particularly if infused with lavender), but they also have other properties that are incredibly helpful. These kinds of salts are pretty common and can be found in pretty much any grocery store or big box store. I personally prefer the Dr. Teal’s Pure Epsom Salt Soaking Solution that I can purchase at Target for less than five dollars, on average. For someone like myself that tries to squeeze in Peloton biking and weight training three times a week, a warm bath in bath salts also helps in soothing sore muscles from rigorous work outs. Never mind the fact that they’re just a plain old stress reliever and who doesn’t need that some of that right now?
Bath BombsAnother fun little treat that I love to add to my baths are bath bombs. For those that may not be as familiar with bath bombs, they are essentially compressed moisturizing bath soap in the form of circular “bombs’ that fizz and dissolve in water. These bath bombs come in various colors, scents and target goals. Some of them are meant to relax, some are meant to moisturize, some are meant to be more citrus, some are meant to be more minty and fresh. Bath bombs came in all sorts of variations but my very FAVORITES I would say come from Lush Cosmetics, that has made huge impression in this area. They offer fairly large bath bombs that lean toward the wholesome, organic and natural route, utilizing and infusing many herbal and fruit elements into each one. As a result, the bombs produce an incredibly aromatic scent that you can smell before you even open your package (assuming your ordering online, since there is a greater variety online). They also come in a lot of fun colors and textures that I try to showcase in our bathroom by placing them in a copper finish bowl next to the bathtub. It should be said that because Lush bath bombs are the high end, organic version of its area, the cost per item can be a little pricier than others that can be found at your local supermarkets and pharmacies. Many opt to cut their bath bombs in half, since you don’t necessarily need to dissolve one entire one to serve their purpose for one bath, and this saves money in the long run. Otherwise, you can find all sorts of varieties at your local Walmart, Target, etc. for your choosing. You can even MAKE them yourselves as a fun pandemic activity, since there are numerous kits and DIY Pinterest formulas out there. Whatever floats your boat…
BubblesFinally, the optional cherry on top is some bubble bath mix, if you really want to take your bath time all the way there. While Lush also offers bubble bars (their version of bubble bath bombs, essentially), these come at a bit of higher price tag therefore, I usually keep it simple and go with some Dove Nourishing Secrets Bubble Bath or the Dr. Teal's equivalent version. This is a pretty affordable and convenient option for most. Granted, I don’t know if I would combine bath salts and bath bombs with bubble bath also, but, bubble bath is a good option if you want to substitute the bath bombs. Or, if you just feel like basking in bubbles, because why not?
So there you have it, lots of ways you can pamper yourself during bath time that don’t necessarily have to break the bank. Now more than ever, we all have to find ways to decompress and if you can combine that with your required bathing time, why not kill two birds with one stone. PS: Just don’t forget to close the door since nothing quite disrupts relaxation and zen like a husband, children and/or pets. Just saying.
